Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have developed their new R18 ULTRA CHAIR using methods borrowed from the future of automotive manufacturing in collaboration with Audi's Lightweight Design Center. The chair's multi-material space frame is made from carbon composites, carbon micro-sandwich and high strength aluminum and weighs only 2.2 kg or 77 ounces. The chair embodies Audi's ultra lightweight design credo completely by following strict guidelines to shave off every ounce of excess weight.

At Design Miami/ the chair's designers and engineers are giving visitors an intimate insight into their studios and labs, displaying drawings, samples, models, mock-ups, moulds and prototypes from the various stages of the development process.

MULTITHREAD was a part of the Adhocracy show curated by Joseph Grima at the Istanbul Design Biennial from October 13 to December 12, 2012 at the former Galata Greek Primary School.

Throughout 2012, the cover and first four pages of Domus magazine will become an open platform. Each month, this space will be given over to a selected practitioner, who will present a manifesto of sorts that expresses a deeply personal understanding of what it means to design today.

For the April issue, Domus published MULTITHREAD for NILUFAR GALLERY on the cover, a script titled THE FUTURE IS NOW by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram on the first four pages of the magazine and a full feature on the latest work including THE R18 ULTRA CHAIR PUBLIC BETA at the Milan Furniture Fair on pages 54–58.

The R18 ULTRA CHAIR PUBLIC BETA installation allows the public to take part in the interactive testing process of a new chair developed in collaboration with the Audi Lightweight Design Center in the courtyard of the 18th Century PALAZZO CLERICI, Via Clerici, 5 from April 17 to 22, 2012 between 11:00 and 22:00.

In the MULTITHREAD installation for Nilufar Gallery, Weisshaar and Kram introduce a new paradigm of Force-Driven Structures. The final form and colour of each joint is a direct representation of the energy it supports.

Nilufar Gallery is hosting this special exhibition together with an installation of important antique Chinese carpets from Nina Yashar's collection in the Sala Pericoli of the Gio Ponti-designed Palazzo Garzanti on Via della Spiga, Milan from April 16th to 22nd, 2012.

Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have designed the the trophy for the Premio Gianni Mazzochi 2011 awarded by QUATTRORUOTE, the legendary car magazine founded by Gianni Mazzocchi in 1956. The award will go to Ralph Nader, American attorney, author, lecturer, political activist, and four-time candidate for President of the United States.

Three Breeding Tables on loan from the Museum of Modern Art will be shown in the exhibition Hyperlinks, a show curated by Zoe Ryan with an eye to the inventive links between practices, this exhibition presents more than 30 projects that span from architecture and furniture to multimedia and conceptual design from an international group of architects and designers.

The Swedish Association of Architects has invited Reed Kram and Clemens Weisshaar to lecture at the Stockholm Art Academy.
The talk is titled Hypersky and will discuss recent and future projects of the office.

The installation OUTRACE by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram on Trafalgar Square in London attracted millions of visitors -physically on Trafalgar Square as well as a global audience on the web. The piece empowered the general public to take control of eight industrial robots on loan from Audi's production line. From the tens of thousands of messages received 3.112 were played and published as videos on www.outrace.org.

Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have conceptualized, designed and built a new retail outlet space for Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg that embraces Nymphenburg's history and looks into the future. The historical grinding shop of the manufactory, built in 1790 has now been renovated to its original state as it was in the late 18th century. A solid block of metal library shelving has been inserted by the designers and exposed electrical wiring draws vectors of thin cables and fluorescent tubes over the historical ceiling. Vintage machine tools and furniture, work benches and cabinets selected from the archives and storage spaces of the manufactory have been restored and put to use as displays.

The Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg Outlet is open exclusively on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00 h.

Opened to the public in 2005, Casa da Música designed by Office for Metropolitan Architecture invigorated the traditional concert hall with its faceted exterior, daring interior forms and innovative use of materials and in a single stroke established a radically-new cultural icon and vibrant public space for the city of Porto. At the invitation of Rem Koolhaas & Ellen van Loon, Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram with Nuno Rosado have in collaboration designed a new event space and flagship store at the travertine base of Casa da Música for OPTIMUS, Portugal'­s most innovative mobile telephone operator.

Hans Ulrich Obrist in conversation with Carsten Höller, Reed Kram and Clemens Weisshaar at the Teatro Agora of the Triennale Design Museum.

At the beginning of 2008 German artist Carsten Höller initiated a project for a temporary bar, restaurant and nightclub in central London concerning the intersection of Congolese and Western culture: THE DOUBLE CLUB. He has invited Kram and Weisshaar to join him and producer Jan Kennedy in the planning and realisation of this project for FONDAZIONE PRADA and to contribute several pieces. These new works are dedicated to the "Western" sections of the club including the central freestanding fully copper-reveted and neon TWO HORSES RIDER'S CLUB bar in the courtyard, a new series of Weisshaar and Kram's seminal BREEDING TABLES coated in two shades of gray for the restaurant and custom upholstered benches for the discotheque.

At the invitation of the Vienna Design Week and with the support of Rieder Smart Elements, the site-specific installation VTOL - VERTICAL TAKEOFF AND LANDING will be presented in the front courtyard of the baroque Garden Palace of the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna. A twisting, glass fibre-reinforced concrete surface - 100 m2 in size and only 13 mm thick - appears to float weightlessly above the ground on a mirrored pedestal. VTOL is shaped with the aid of a set of software tools especially developed by the designers.

Concurrent to the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK events, Sotheby's will exhibit works by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram under the title ECONOMIES OF SCALE in the Palais Wilczek, Herrengasse 5, Vienna 1010.

Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have been invited by curator Guta Moura Guedes to contribute with a site specific installation to an exhibition titled FLEXIBILITY, one of the four main shows on the occasion of TORINO WORLD DESIGN CAPITAL 2008. The Installation called JAILBREAK in the central cell block of the former prison shows 17 cardboard Models of objects from the VENDÔME series, the latest project of the office that was introduced during DESIGN MIAMI/ BASEL in early June.

CLASSICON will present new products designed by Clemens Weisshaar during the 44th Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have designed a limited-edition set of parametric hand made and hand painted dinner plates for Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg titled MY PRIVATE SKY. The project represents the ultimate in personalization: each set shows the night sky at the date and place of birth of the buyer. The first of a series of projects to be designed by the offices of Kram/Weisshaar for Nymphenburg, the project will be presented to the public during the Monaco Yacht Show September 19-22 in Monte Carlo.

CLASSICON will present the TRITON Bar Stool designed by Clemens Weisshaar during the 43rd Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. The TRITON Bar Stool consists of a three-legged steel frame supporting a free-form seat shell made from injection-moulded polyurethene resin.

Kram/Weisshaar have also been commissioned to design the CLASSICON Fair Stand in Hall 12, Stand D05 at the Salone Internationale del Mobile 2007 in Milan, open April 19-24, daily 9:30 - 18:30h.

During the Milan Design Week MONITOR magazine is organizing a series of lectures by designers who "work today, but have the mentality of tomorrow."

Clemens Weisshar and Reed Kram are to give a lecture on recent projects on April 19 15:00h at the Press Point in Zona Tortona.
Other speakers throughout the week include Kengo Kuma, Konstantin Grcic and Yves Behar.

On the occasion of their 30th anniversary, the Centre Pompidou has completely revealed their permanent collection of Art and Design on the 4th and 5th floors of the museum. The new hanging presents 1300 pieces from 1905 to the present, now also including the Breeding Tables project by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram.

The international Paperworld fair launches the second manifestation of the exhibition concepts developed by Kram/Weisshaar for Messe Frankfurt over the last two years. The Masterplan for the 50.000 square meters of exhibition space restructures visitor flow and experience around a series of special exhibitions designed by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram including 160m² mural by Mode2, 7m tall design model by Luigi Colani, and 350m long walk-of-fame dedicated to archtetypical pens exhibited as oversized models.

The comprehensive design calls for reinjecting momentum into the mechanics of the trade fair and repositions exhibitioning in the age of total communication.

Over the course of the past year the offices of Kram/Weisshaar have laid the groundwork for a series of interventions to redefine the face of the trade fair for the 21st century. With the architectural and media master plan for a new event format at Messe Frankfurt, The Design Annual will be the first implementation of these newly-developed concepts.

Selected manufacturers from all facets of the design world will be exhibiting along with a series of special exhibitions and events. In addition, the architectural design model will be on display at the Museum for Applied Arts in Frankfurt concurrent to the actual event.

At the invitation of curator Libby Sellers, Kram/Weisshaar have designed an installation for the outdoor tank at the Design Museum on the Thames river front.

The exhibition JUNG + DEUTSCH (Young and German) will be travelling to Japan. The exhibition will be presented at "Designer's Week" in Tokyo in October 2005 as part of the festival "Germany in Japan". An early prototype of the Breeding Tables will be presented in the show.

The Exhibition BREEDING TABLES: LA RACCOLTA shown for the first time in April in Milano has been acquired by the Centre Pompidou for the permanent collection.

An early prototype of the Breeding Tables as well as the video Breeding Tables: La Raccolta are to be shown in the exhibition JUNG + DEUTSCH (Young and German) The show provides, for the first time, a survey of the most important ideas of a new generation of German designers from the fields of furniture and product design, graphic design, fashion and media design. The exhibition is curated by Mateo Kries and Britt Angelis, produced by Tanja Thiele in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, exhibition design by Hermann Weizenegger and Oliver Vogt.

The Breeding Tables will be put into production.
