VENDÔME

JAILBREAK EXHIBITION

At the invitation of curator Guta Moura Guedes, Clemens Weisshaar & Reed Kram were commissioned to design a site specific installation for the exhibition Flexibility, one of the four main shows on the occasion of Torino World Design Capital 2008.

Titled JAILBREAK, the installation in Turin saw KRAM/WEISSHAAR present 17 scale 1:1 cardboard models of VENDÔME stools, pedestals and tables. In replacing the solid concrete of the original VENDÔME with cardboard, the installation emphasized the potential for change inherent in the process, and the fact that each object may serve as the prototype for innumerable other objects. The cardboard models were piled up to make a three-storey high tower evocative of DNA-strands. In its evolutionary character the JAILBREAK installation thus points out the essential characteristics of the project: physical permanence versus endless mutation and development.

The entire edition is limited to 99 designs.
